Guru Purnima is Ashadha Purnima, the full moon for remembering a teacher. In 2027 it falls in July. Guru the planet leaves exalted Karka for Simha around 26 June, so the festival arrives with him direct in Simha, no longer in exaltation.
A class in Chennai still garlands a photograph and still owes last term’s fee. The fee is the honour. A yellow sapphire bought for the afternoon has not seen the chart. Pay the person who taught you. If you have no teacher, reopen a book you were given. Do not appoint a stranger from a video because the tithi sounds binding.
The Moon is full, the name is the teacher
Every purnima is Chandra opposite Surya. “Guru” in the name is the tradition of the teacher, which Jyotish also ties to the graha Guru. Do not puja a planet and ignore the human being. The June change of sign is the end of Guru’s second stay in Karka.
