Magh Snan 2027 Is a Month of Sunrises

Magh snan is a month of dawn baths in early 2027, with Makar Sankranti inside it. One selfie at a ghat is not the vrata.

By Avinash ChandanPublished Updated

Magh snan is not one morning. It is the practice of bathing at dawn through Magha, often begun from Pausha Purnima and held through the month, with Makar Sankranti sitting inside it in mid-January. In 2027 that means a run of cold sunrises around the solar ingress of 14 or 15 January, not a selfie at one ghat.

Guru re-enters Karka on 25 January 2027, retrograde and exalted, with Ketu already in that sign. So the later dawns of the month stand under a Guru who has come back to edit the summer, not to repeat it. A vow of baths fits that sky: repetition, cold, no audience. A single dip taken because a reel called it the most powerful morning is a different, thinner thing.

Surya at dawn, Shani still in Meena

The bath honours Surya and the month. Shani is still in Meena, direct since 11 December 2026. You can keep both: the dawn dip, and the Saturday duty, without renaming the river a Saturn remedy. Sankranti itself is Makar Sankranti 2027. If the body cannot take a river in January, a home bath at sunrise kept for the month is closer to the vrata than a dangerous dip done once for the photograph.

Questions people keep asking

Is Magh snan only on Makar Sankranti?

Sankranti is the famous morning inside a longer month of dawns. The vrata is the repetition.

What if the river is unsafe?

Keep the sunrise bath at home. A vow that harms the body is not what Surya is owed.
