Maha Shivaratri 2027 Falls on 6 March
Maha Shivaratri 2027 is Saturday 6 March. The fast runs to nishita, the middle of the night, not a convenient evening slot.

Maha Shivaratri 2027 is Saturday 6 March. Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi holds the night. The puja that matters is nishita, around the middle of the night, which is why people stay awake rather than “offer something after office.”
A night guard in Nashik has kept this fast for twelve years and still asks his priest, every February, whether the chaturdashi is the 6th or the 5th. In 2027 the night of the 6th is the one the major lists name. If your city prints the 5th because chaturdashi began the previous afternoon, keep the night your priest names. Shiva is not offended by a sunrise rule. He is not served by a forwarded poster from another state.
A fast is not a Shani remedy by accident
People pile Shani daan onto Shivaratri because both feel severe. The vrata is Shiva’s. Shani, in March 2027, is still in Meena, direct since December. If you already keep a Saturday lamp, keep it on its own day. On the 6th, keep the night. Guru is exalted and retrograde in Karka, with Ketu. The night is for stillness, not for a new guru you found that week.
Eclipse season is nearby: a penumbral lunar eclipse around 20–21 February, and an annular solar eclipse on 6 February that India does not see. Shivaratri is not an eclipse rite. The eclipse note is eclipses of 2027.
Questions people keep asking
What time is nishita on Shivaratri 2027?
Around local midnight of 6 March, the eighth prahar. Your panchang prints the window. A national average is not the puja.
Do you eat on Maha Shivaratri?
The traditional fast runs through the night vigil. How strictly a household keeps it is a family practice. Do not invent a harder fast than the one you know.
