A Muhurat Is Five Checks, Not One Lucky Hour

A muhurat stacks tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana and the charts of the people involved. A single ‘shubh hour’ on a poster is not that stack.

By Avinash ChandanPublished Updated

A muhurat is a stack. The tithi should suit the work. The nakshatra should suit it. Yoga and karana are checked. The lagna of the moment is checked. For a wedding, both birth charts are checked, including Navamsa and Mangal. A poster that says “best time 11:11” has performed none of this. It has picked a minute that looks neat.

Festival days feel like ready-made muhurats because a whole city is already ceremonious. Dussehra, Akshaya Tritiya, Diwali: they are good days for the rite they are. They are not automatic muhurats for a flat, a company, or a marriage. In November 2026 they are also inside, or just after, two retrogrades. Ceremony is not permission.

Ask the priest what he checked

If he can name the tithi and the nakshatra, you are in a muhurat. If he can only name the festival, you are in a crowd. Matching for a wedding is Kundli matching. The Diwali season bookings are after Diwali 2026.

Questions people keep asking

Is a festival day a muhurat?

It is a tithi with a story. A muhurat for your event still has to be stacked on top of it.

What are the five checks?

Tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana, and the lagna of the moment. A wedding adds the two charts.
